Saturday, February
28, 2015. The wind continues. The prevailing wind here is out of the
southeast, so until a front comes through, we wait to head east. The waves are high today. Lisa and Joanna (Kachina) go to the
beach. I spend the day working on the
blog and working on letters for Jeff, who is trying to obtain an internship for
this summer. Cocktail hour is on the
dock with a lot of the folks here (see pictures). Dinner on board.
Sunday, March 1,
2015. Lisa spends the day working on
our teak and holly floors. Wow! Do they come our nice! (See pictures). I spent time cleaning all the shells that
have been collected. Tonight is a
progressive dinner, with cocktails on Island Time (Bruce and Nathan) – Bruce
made a yummy rum punch, appetizers on Kachina (John and Joanna), main dish on
Rhiannon – lobster and pasta, and dessert on Kintala (Tim and Deb) - homemade
cookies and coffee/tea.
Monday, March 2,
2015. The weather is actually very
nice, but the wind refuses to let up.
Sea Horse (Mike and Pam) try to leave, but a back in 4 hours – too
rough. I walked up to the hardware store and found a couple of items I need to
make some repairs on Rhiannon. We went
to the beach with Joanne, Jen and the kids (Adagio). Lois is there from Sunshine and her husband
Dom is out beach walking. Lisa and Lois
continue down the beach looking for conch shells. Tonight Kachina hosts
appetizers and drinks with us and Adagio.
Very nice.
Tuesday, March 3,
2015. We saw the fisherman going out
this morning, and told a couple of them if they got lobster (crawfish here), we
would buy some if the price was right.
We walked down to the local laundromat, where they prefer to do the
“wash and fold” as they maintain better utilization of the machines. We can pick it up tomorrow morning. On the
way back, we had lunch from a cart selling hot dogs and sausages. Mmmmm good! Lisa met a couple of the local
high school girls on the beach, Brittany and Shadaine. They have
never been on a boat! So, Lisa invited them to visit and they invited her to
visit their school. About 4 o’clock, Sydney and Leroy show up with fresh
lobster. 8 for $15.
Wednesday, March 4,
2015. Today is James birthday. We call and sing “Happy Birthday” to him. At
9am, we picked up our laundry. Lisa had
left money in her pocket and they returned it.
Earned a nice tip! Lisa and Lois
and Dom (Sunshine) went to “The Dolphin House.
Mr. Ashley Saunders has been working on this place for years. He was educated at University of Wisconsin and Harvard and taught at the Bimini All Ages School - now the Louise McDonald High School. The house is at the top of a hill with views of both
east and west. It is made of concrete,
but uniquely decorated with mosaics, paintings and local objects (found and
otherwise). He is currently adding a
third floor. There are two “suites” that
are rented that are very nice.
After lunch, they are joined by Jen and the kids (Adaqgio)
and visit the local school. It is a very
nice school. They meet James Pinder, the head master and art teacher,
who is doing a great job teaching all kids of art, sculpture, painting,
etc., as well as providing a good all-round education. They have also built a nature walk
behind the school with signs describing the plants and their medicinal
uses. Neat! The kids are lucky to have such qualified and
caring teachers.
About 5pm, Brittany and Shadaine come to visit us on the boat - along with their mom, and two little brothers. They had a tour of our boat and then Adagio - kids mixing with kids! Neat! These island people have never been on a boat before! They invited us to dinner (jerk chicken and pork) next time we are in Bimini.
We filled the tanks with water and diesel and have dinner on
board. Departure scheduled for 5am
tomorrow.
