Bimini to Exumas to New Providence to Shroud Cay 2018

Bimini to Exumas to New Providence to Shroud Cay 2018

Thursday, February 15, 2018. Off the dock at 7:30am with the help of Lee (Dolphin Leap) and Gary (Sea Scapes).  I set up all the waypoints for the trip on the chart plotter last night.  This morning all I can see on the plotter is a pixelated, fuzzy screen.  This has happened before.  Sometimes it corrects itself, sometimes I have to take the unit apart, check all the internal connections and put it back together.  One time I had to send it back to Raymarine. One of these times, it won’t be able to be fixed and will have to be replaced.
7:45am Clear as we leave Bimini Harbor.  Talked to Charm, Wabasi and Tactless Too on the radio,  Seems like everyone is moving today. Sunny, no clouds, 75 degrees, wind NE @ 10.  We are motoring.
8:30am Checked in with Charm.  They are about an hour (5 miles) ahead of us as we turn at North Rock.  Wind, waves and current on our nose now.  Only making 5.8 knots.
10:30am Checked in with Charm and Karibbe Cat.  We are now 21 miles from Mackie Shoal and Bimini is out of sight.
1:45pm Mackie Shoals. Lots of flying fish, but nothing hitting our trolling lures.

Marker at Mackie Shoal
3:30pm Seas almost flat.  We pass Charm and a German flagged boat Bailow with no one at the helm.  We could see them for quite a while and never did see anyone at the helm. People do that, maybe go below and have a nap, but I was always taught someone should be on watch.  Still 75 degrees, no clouds, wind East @ 5.
6:00pm  Anchor down at the anchorage west of Chubb Cay, just north of the Northwest Channel.  We saw the “green flash” at sundown. 5 other boats that we can see Karibbe Kat, Charm, a couple of trawlers and a big catamaran.

70.7NM today. Anchored in 13 feet of water with no land in sight. 25°31.05’N  078°10.15’W

Friday, February 16, 2018. Anchor up at 7:00am.  70 degrees, wind East @ 5-10, puffy clouds, beautiful sunrise.  Charm has left ½ hour ahead of us.
8:00am Northwest Channel “Light” (doesn’t light).
8:30am Fishing lines out with new “Ballyhoo” lures.
11:00am Only a few clouds on the horizon.  Wind East @ 5-10.  Big ocean “rollers” coming in from the northeast.
12:00  Still no fish.  15 miles to West Bay, New Providence.  Got an email from Avalon.  They are at Staniel Cay headed to George Town. Got an email from Outbound.  They are at Black Point.
3:00pm Anchor down in West Bay, NP.  8.5 feet of water here (it’s low tide).  52NM today. 25°01.45’N  077°33.04’W
Charm and Karibee Kat are here along with 8 other boats.  Also one large mega yacht with all it’s toys deployed.
5:00pm  Charm (Kathy and John) came by in their dingy to give us a ride to Karibee Kat (Nancy and Carl) for sunset cocktails and appetizers.  Nice way to end the day.

Saturday, February 17, 2018. No wind overnight. Anchor up at 7:15am. Sunny, no clouds, 75 degrees, wind light from the East.  Left the anchorage at West Bay via the south entrance.  The tide is running strong and we are right on the edge of where the “Banks” (that is 15 feet deep) meets the “Tongue of the Ocean”  (which is several thousand feet deep).  The wind is East @15+ and the seas at 4-6 feet (tide and wind opposed).
11:15am Lisa has a fish on but as she gets it to the boat it get free.  Probably a barracuda here on the banks.  It really tore up our new lure.
12:00 Charm and Karibee Kat are headed to Shroud Cay.  We are headed to Highbourne Cay (10 miles farther north) to refill with fuel and water. We are headed due east and are pounding directly into the wind and the waves.  This was not supposed to build up until tomorrow!
2:00pm Charm has a fish on.  Turns out to be a 3 foot barracuda.  They hooked a larger one but it got away.
3:00pm We are at the fuel dock at Highbourne Cay Marina.  33.6 gallons of fuel, water, dumped trash and made a visit to the store (fresh apples, cucumbers, asparagus) and some steel leader for the barracudas.
4:00pm  We are off the dock and decide to continue on to Norman’s Cay (another 10 miles) as we have plenty of daylight.  We are able to stay in the lee of the islands and it is smooth traveling.
5:50pm  Anchor down at anchorage on SW side of Norman’s.  56.1 NM today.  24°36.03’N  076°49.37’W  8 boats here.  1 50+ foot motor yacht playing very loud Spanish music.

Sunday, February 18, 2018. Anchor up at 7:15am.  Sunny, clouds on the horizon.  Wind SE @ 12.  Sail up – headed south to Warderick Wells.
9:00am talked to Exuma Park, managed to get a mooring in the north field, where the Park Headquarters is located.  Charm and Karribee Cat got moorings as well.
11:45am On mooring #22 at Warderick Wells.  This is the last mooring – up at the end of the horseshoe anchorage.  When the tide is low, you can almost step off the boat onto the sandbar.
Sunny, many puffy clouds, 75 degrees, wind SE @ 15+.  Very nice sail this morning.  28NM 24°23.72’N  076°38.13’W
We flew kites in the afternoon, went for a swim and participated in a Bocce Ball Game on the beach at 5.  Other participants included Kathy and Jim (Charm), Phoebe and Ron (Noodin’) John and Gayle (Ciro, pronounced Cheer - o).
Bocce Ball on the beach
John and Gayle “borrowed” Crio and brought it down here for the owners, who will use it for maybe two weeks during the season.  The owners bought the house right next door to our friends Jerry and Pam on Plain Dealing Creek in Easton, MD.  During one visit there, we parked Rhiannon on that dock.  Gayle worked with Jerry at the YMCA.  Small world.

Lisa made shrimp alfredo for dinner – mmmmmm!

Monday, February 19, 2018. Partly cloudy, wind SE @ 20+.  We stopped by the Park Office and met Nicola, she and her husband are the new Park Administrators.  We renewed our membership in the Bahamas National Trust while there.
9:30am  We walked up to Boo Boo Hill and Lisa managed to find out sign from previous years.  She found Green Stone’s as well.  We leave theirs in a conspicuous place so they will be able to find it when they visit here.  We will take ours back to the boat and add 2018 to it.

Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Clouds off and on and rain, heavy at times.  Wind E @ 20-30.  Nice day to stay in, read and work on the blog.  In between showers, we went ashore and had a nice walk.

Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Cloudy off and on again today.  Occasional rain showers, wind still E @ 20+.  Worked on trying to get the wifi booster to work.  Re-installed firmware for inboard radio.  It is now working.  Cannot get the offboard radio (the one that connects to the Park WiFi, for example) to connect.
Hooked up our printer and it says it needs new cartridges.  This has been a problem before as the printer sits all summer and the ink dries up.  I thought we had extra new cartridges, but I guess not.  Frustrating.

Thursday, February 22, 2018. Sunny, but still a very strong East wind at 20+.  You can see the waves breaking over the island on the other side.  We stopped at the Park Office and said hi to Cherrie, she was off for the last week.  We gave her an ice cream maker and all the fixin’s.  She said on our previous visit that ice cream was the one thing she really missed being here.  Lisa and Seahawk (Burry and Wendy) worked painting the railings on the Ranger’s residence.  Volunteer work earns free moorings. Lisa was visited in her work by several “curly tails” (lizards) and a huge soldier crab (like a hermit crab, but much larger).  Tried to re-install firmware on the offboard wifi booster (again).  Still cannot get it to connect.

Friday, February 23, 2018. Nice day. 70’s, wind SE @ 10-15, rain in the afternoon. Lisa and Seahawk continued to work on painting at the Ranger’s residence.  We met Joseph (Nicola’s husband), who is the other new Park Administrator.
Lisa and Seahawk went snorkeling.  I made rum drinks and dinner for us all (pork chops cooked with sage, green beans and mashed potatoes).  Nice evening.

Saturday, February 24, 2018. Beautiful morning. 70 degrees, wind SE 5-10, puffy clouds.  Lisa and I worked on fixing and repainting some of the signage on the trail to Boo Boo Hill.  We also made a couple of arrows to place strategically so folks would more easily be able to stay on the trails.

At 4:00pm there was a meet and greet on the beach.  I believe almost every boat was there.  Cherrie, Nicole and Joseph and several of the other rangers were there as well.  Nice.
We heard Providence (Bill) on the radio.  He is anchored at Emerald Rock and is heading to George Town as he is one of the co-chairmen of the cruising regatta which begins this coming Friday.

Sunday, February 25, 2018. We took the newly remade signs in and put them up.  As we were headed in a large Eagle Ray “flew” in front of us.  Impressive!  We were able to follow it with the dingy for quite a while. We also put up our updates Rhiannon sign on Boo Boo Hill.  We said our goodbyes to Cherrie and David M.  Sunny, 75 degrees, wind SE 10-15.
We dropped the mooring at 11:15am and were able to sail 30 degrees off the wind.
12 noon a squall passes us by.  Winds swing from the East to the South and gust to 30+.  We tried a couple of different tacks, but we are really not making any forward progress.
1:00pm squall past and we are motoring.  Wind settles to SE @ 15, right on our nose and the direction we need to go.
3:15pm anchor down at Sampson Cay.  Little Sampson Cay is now private and the marina is closed.  There is a resort and restaurant, also closed except to friends of the owner.  The place has been maintained and is beautiful, the buildings and docks look new.  If I were going to buy and island, this might be the one.  Seahawk here also.

16NM today (probably a lot more with all the tacking).  24°12.58’N  076°28.50”W

We talked to Carrie Mae (Bob and Marie) on the VHF.  They are headed to George Town.  Last time we saw them was in Vero Beach.
4:00pm  We went for a dingy ride with Seahawk sight seeing around Sampson Cay.  We went across the sand flats and walked to the ocean side (only about 100 feet across the little island). Dinner on board.

Monday, February 26, 2018.  Weather is perfect.  75 degrees, puffy clouds, wind E @ 5-10.  We go snorkeling with Burry (Seahawk) at the north tip of Dennis Cay (just west of Sampson).  Nice coral reef, lots of fish, including one Lion Fish that we could not coax out of hiding.  Burry had a “Hawaiian Sling”, which uses a sling shot type of device to “sling” the spear.  Spear guns are illegal in the Bahamas but the sling is ok.  No luck finding dinner.
After lunch, we went with Seahawk across the flats to the beach.  Lisa found a very nice purse bean, I found a hamburger bean and Burry found a heart bean.
We had drinks and dinner on Seahawk. Burry made rum punch and chicken alfredo.  We presented Seahawk with a conch horn we made as after all the years they have been coming to the Bahamas, they did not have one on board.
Burry and Wendy have a dog on board.  She is 15, an Akita/Shephard mix named Maggie.  Very nice, but getting lame in her old age.

Tuesday, February 27, 2018.  Anchor up at 7:30am, a few puffy clouds on the horizon, wind S @ 10.  Motored south to Black Point.
9:30am Anchor down @ Rockledge Laundry.
10NM 24.05.90'N 076.95.18'W
Lots of boats here.  We are told there were more than 40 here last night hiding from the wind.  There is a parade of boats leaving here headed south to George Town for the cruising regatta which starts March 2.
Green Stone and Saber Tooth are here.  Great seeing them again.  We hauled a ton of clothes to the laundry.  Saber Tooth is there doing laundry too.  We were able to find empty machine when we walked in – highly unusual.
A new pier is being built at Lorraine’s Restaurant (next door).  They have been bringing folks from as far away as Nassau for lunch at the restaurants on the island (including Lorrain’s, Scorpio’s, DeShamon’s) in large center-cockpit boats and tie up at the laundry’s dock.  At times, the laundry customers could not get to the dock with their dinghies.  The new dock will make life easier for everyone.
Carrie Mae showed up to do laundry.  Haven’t seen them since Vero either.
1:30pm We took the dinghy and went with Saber Tooth, Green Stone and Southern Flite (Ian and Michelle) to the creek at the northern end of Great Guana Cay (the island Black Point is on).  Last time we were here, a sailboat Cimarron was aground here.  The story is the owner, who we sort of met in Marathon in 2012, brought the boat over here, but never bothered to check in with the Bahamian authorities.  Folks say he was taken away in handcuffs by the Defense Force and deported.  Next we heard, he had gotten into a fight in a bar in Marathon and killed someone and was in jail for the duration.  Cimarron is still here, beached in the same place, but now a wreck and stripped.
We made our way to the end of the creek, quite low on water as the tide is just beginning to come in.  We walked across to the beach.  Lots of rock here too.  I found one heart bean and Judy (Green Stone) found two.  Nice afternoon with friends.
We sent an email to Nick and Carolyn Wardle to let them know we would be arriving by the week-end.  Lisa has a flight out on Wednesday.  They are in Coral Harbour on the south side of New Providence (the island Nassau is on).
4:30pm  We went to shore for Happy Hour at Scorpios.  Lots of people here.  On the way we stopped at Adderley’s and Lisa said hello to Miss Lillian, who is really suffering from dementia, but we think she may have remembered Lisa. She says she enjoys reading, so if you are in the area, bring her a book to read. Her daughters and grand daughter were taking care of her and the store today.
Zhivago (Scorpios owner) was passing out free meatballs when we arrived.  Rum punch is 2 for $7!  I ordered wings and Lisa ordered “Everything Fries” which were French fries with cheese, guacamole, chili, sour cream, lettuce, tomato and onion – quite the meal!  Very nice, but busy day.

Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Sunny, no wind, 75 degrees, puffy clouds.  Like a pond here in the anchorage.
9am John and Nora (Saber Tooth) came to visit.  We gave them Rhiannon shirts.  They had given us Saber Tooth shirts yesterday. We then went to shore and dropped off presents – fabric and tea for Miss Francis (although she wasn’t home-in Nassau visiting family) and cinnamon, raisins and vanilla for Miss Peermon (Lorraine’s mom who bakes that delicious bread).  We bought a cinnamon/coconut bread and a regular white bread while we were there. We stopped at Adderley’s Store, but the shelves are really bare.  All the customers this week really cleaned them out, but the mail boat is supposed to bring new supplies tomorrow.
On the way back to the boat, we stopped at Ciro to say we hoped to meet up with them again.
10:30am It has clouded over and is sprinkling rain as we raise the anchor and head north.
11:30am The rain has stopped and the sun has peaked out, 80 degrees and the wind is NE@5.
We hear So Many Stars on the radio and get to say hello as they pass by going south to George Town.  Kathy is a Physician Assistant and helped with Pierre when he was ill in Bimini.  We also heard from Seahawk, who is anchored at the Grotto in Staniel Cay.
2:30pm Clouds building in the East.  Wind NE@15.
3:00pm Rain, wind NE@20 as squall passes.
3:30pm Partly cloudy, wind NE@15
4:30pm Anchor down at Shroud Cay south of the mooring field – just north of Little Pigeon Cay (where the potcakes we met on the last trip live – the dogs cross over to Shroud at very low tide when the ground is exposed between the two cays).  16 boats here including 4 that are at least 100 feet long.  38NM today.  24°31.31’N  076°47.64’W
Huge full moon tonight.  It was supposed to be calm tonight, but the wind continues to blow NW@10-15.  Overnight the wind shifted to SE.

Thursday, March 1, 2018. Lovely morning, partly cloudy, 70 degrees, wind SW 5-10.  Anchor up at 7:45am.  Many boats heading south.
10:45am Can’t see land in any direction. 24°42.94’N  077°05.38’W
12:15am 17 miles to Coral Harbour.  Atlantis and other big hotels visible on the horizon.  Sunny, 80 degrees, clouds can be seen on the southern horizon.
3:15pm We are tied to Calana III.  Also, Serenity (a big Hatteras)is here.  Good to see Nick, Carolyn and Yeager (potcake) again.  Sunny, no clouds here, wind SW@10-15.  48NM today.
24°58.95’N  077°27.70’W
Rum O’clock (aka 5:00pm) with Nick and Carolyn under a new gazebo built after hurricane Matthew (since we were last here).

Friday, March 2, 2018.  Beautiful day, light west wind.  Carolyn is gone to Freeport on a birding expedition.  She is one of the Bahamas birding experts and does birding tours.  She also does kayak and bicycle tours.
We gave Rhiannon a good bath from stem to stern she was covered in salt.  We walked to the beach then had an early dinner at The Sand Bar at Coral Harbour Beach House.  Grouper fingers and some Pink Sands.

Saturday, March 3, 2018.  Another lovely day.  Winds are predicted to be from the NW@20-30. There is a huge storm between Cape Hatteras and Long Island, but here we are only supposed to get some high winds.  New Hampshire, where Lisa is headed next week will get a bunch of snow.
We worked on ordering stuff Lisa will bring back with her: a mercury switch for the oven, a replacement offboard Wi-Fi radio, a new air conditioning pump, printer cartridges, etc.
We did Rum O’clock with Nick, Carolyn is still away.
2 other boats come in to hide from the win, Boundless, who we met last time we were here.  Jeff does sailing tours of the Exumas, and Balance (from Sweden).
Dinner on board.  Very windy now, but this place is very protected.
Jelly Fish at Coral Harbor

Sunday March 4, 2018.  Today is our son James birthday.  Cooler overnight with wind from the North. Partly cloudy this morning, 70 degrees, still very windy from the North.  We worked on cleaning stainless and waxing, then Rum O’clock with Nick and Balance.

Monday, March 5, 2018. There is supposed to be a big snowstorm in New England and the East Coast on Wednesday when Lisa is supposed to fly home.  Lovely here. We were able to talk American Airlines into changing her tickets to tomorrow.  Amazing how difficult it is to work with airlines.  Gone are the days of them really working for a customer’s business.  We have good internet, so we were able to catch up on “inter webs stuff” and get some bills paid.

Tuesday, March 6, 2018. 70 degrees, wind West@20+.  Nick and I drove Lisa to the airport st noon for her 1:30pm flight.
We stopped at Budget Meats, the local grocery.  It is amazingly well stocked, including produce.  Rum O’clock with Nick.  Lisa called to say she made it home ok.  James and Laura picked her up at the airport.  The dogs were ecstatic to see her.

Wednesday, March 7, 2018.  Strong North wind, cool, no clouds.  Lisa called to say the doctor changed both her appointments to today because of the coming snowstorm.  Cool, glad she got home a day early.
I changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter (on the engine) and the Racor fuel filter on the main engine (hours 2,907).
Rum O’clock with Nick, Vespra (Stan and Kathy) and Altitude Adjustment (Mike and Cindy).
Afterward, we all went to The Cricket Club in Nassau for dinner.  This is Nick and Carolyn’s favorite place to eat.  It is actually a cricket club – and a restaurant and pub.  A favorite place for British Ex-pats.  The food was excellent. Mike and Kathy had the Steak and Mushroom Pie, Stan had the Fish and Chips, Cindy had the Chicken Pie and I had the Seafood (lobster and shrimp) Pie.  Yum, Yum!  If in Nassau, you should go.  Reasonable prices too.
We did not follow Carolyn’s directions to get there, instead following directions from Google Maps on Stan’s phone.  We got terribly lost.  Google Maps kept sending us in circles and add to that most of the streets in Nassau are not labeled with signage.
On the way home, we did not do much better.  Kathy was unfamiliar with the concept of a “roundabout” and there are lots on New Providence.  Add to that we are not used to driving on the left side of the road.  It took us an hour and a half to do the 16 miles back to Nick and Carolyn’s.  As we left the Club, it was dark and began to rain which did not help us find our way.
L to r: Mike and Cindy (Altitude Adjustment),
Kathy and Stan (Vesper)

Heavy rain overnight.  Heavy snow in New Hampshire.
Snow in New Hampshire
Thursday, March 8, 2018. Partly Cloudy, 75 degrees, strong west wind.  Today I changed the oil in the engine transmission and the generator.  The little ¼” plastic tubing on the unit that we use to get the oil out of the engine kinked and cracked letting air in.  The unit is made by Jabsco and is basically a pump mounted on a jerry can.  You place the long ¼” tube in the dip stick hole and the unit sucks the oil out of the engine.  On our boat, there is no way to get to the drain plug at the bottom of the engine.  I managed to cut off the broken parts of the tubing and then get it back in the fitting on the pump, then I was able to proceed getting the oil out of the generator.
Hours: 1388.
Rum O’clock. Me, Altitude Adjustment, Vespera, Nick and Carolyn.  Nice.  Leftover seafood pie from the Cricket Club for dinner.  Still yummy!

Friday, March 9, 2018. Cloudy, 70 degrees, looks like rain, wind NW@5-10.  Vespera and Altitude Adjustment both leave, headed to Green Cove Springs, FL, to put the boat away until the fall.
Lisa called, all her tests went well and there are no issues.  Great news!  It is cold in NH, but not snowing today. They got about a foot of snow yesterday. Brrrrrr!
Completed the oil change on the generator.  Also changed the fuel filter, zinc, and impeller in the raw water pump.
Rum O’clock with Nick and Carolyn.

Saturday, March 10, 2018. Heavy rain overnight. Lots of lightning and thunder.  Found every leak in the boat. Clear by 9am. Laundry today.  Great day for the solar/wind dryer.

Solar/Wind Clothes Dryer
Worked on leaky ports, I think they are fixed.
Rum O’clock with Nick and Carolyn.  Made a hamburger for dinner.  Haven’t had one of these in a while.

Sunday, March 11, 2018. More really heavy rain overnight. One port still leaking.  Discovered that the seal around the window was not sealed.  Used some of the old reliable polymeric liquid sealant. No more leaks.  I spent the remainder of the day cleaning up the boat and putting everything away that I drug out to work on the engine and generator.
Boundless comes in the to dock. We met Nick, Liz and daughter Jen last time we were here.
Rum O’clock with Nick and Carolyn and Jeff (Boundless), then made to other hamburger in the package for dinner.

Monday, March 12, 2018. Nice morning, cool, wind N@10-15. I rode with Nick and Jeff to the airport.  Jeff (Boundless) is flying out today.  He charters the boat to school groups and his next charter is not for 9 days. I rented a car from Virgo (cheapest on the island).  They also rent scooters, but you really do not see many of those on the roads.
I picked up Lisa at the airport at 1:30pm.  She was able to get a 90 day visa and there was no duty charged on the spare parts she brought back with her.
We went to dinner with Nick and Carolyn at the Cricket Club. Nick had the shepherd’s pie, Lisa had the seafood pie and Carolyn and I had the steak and mushroom pie.  Again, the food was excellent and reasonable. Carolyn drove, so we did not get lost coming or going.

Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Cloudy morning, 75 degrees, wind W@15+, clearing by noon.  Today is provisioning day, grocery (Super Value), then the liquor store for Pink Sands and wine. Jimmy’s Liquors is owned by the guy who owns Sand Brewery and the prices on Sands are about half what they are in other stores.  After stowing everything, we had an early dinner at Compass Point on the western side of the island.  Nice view of the sunset. The food and service were excellent.  Lisa had the House Special Salad, which was great and huge.  I had lobster raviolis.  There were only four, but they were very large and we took two home for another meal.
More rain overnight, but not the intensity as the last two rain storms. No leaks.

Wednesday, March 14, 2018. We filled the boat with water and then with fuel from the jerry cans.  I took the empty diesel jerry cans and the one for gasoline and went to the petrol station.  Carolyn said there was one “just down the road”.  I couldn’t find it.  I did find two Shell stations that were both not pumping as their pumps were being serviced.  Back at the boat, I got more specific directions from Nick.  The station is indeed “just down the road”, but there is no signage, a fence around it and it is set back from the road.
Once the refilled cans were back on board, I made a stop at the hardware store to get more mineral spirits, which we are out of and then returned the rental car.  Virgo has a courtesy van and gave me a ride back to the boat, but halfway back it had a flat tire.  After about an hour another van showed up and I was back at the boat in another 15 minutes.
Lisa and I had a nice Run O’clock with Nick and Carolyn and then leftovers from Compass Point for dinner.

Thursday, March 15, 2018. Ides of March. My sister Liz’s birthday.  Nick and Carolyn are selling his old Morgan.  It is a 1970’s vintage.  It has not been driven since 1985 and has been sitting in there carport since then.  It is in pretty rough shape, but it is all there.  A guy is flying over to take a look at it today.  We meet him a breakfast, but he and his partner have decided it is in too rough shape for them.  If anyone is looking for a “barn find” Morgan, contact Nick and Carolyn.
9:00am, we say our goodbyes and are off the dock.  Another nice stay here.  Cool 60 degrees this morning.  Sunny, wind NE@5-10.
9:30am We are outside Coral Harbour and the wind in NE@15+ and pretty much right on our nose as we head for Highborne Cay.  Rather than fight this all the way across the Banks, we alter course to the south toward Norman’s Stake. An OK ride down, we are motor sailing at 6+ knots.
10:30am A large bottle-nose dolphin is swimming alongside.  It plays in our bow wake for a few minutes and then continues on its way.  We don’t see many of the bottle-nosed here. We heard from Saber Tooth that they are at Rudder Cay to see the sunken piano with John’s brother Nigel (who we have met previously) and his daughter Keira on board. We also hear from Avalon, who are currently at Staniel Cay and headed to the Abacos.
12:00pm The wind is slowly but surely shifting to the east and it is a challenge to keep some wind in the sail.  We continue to alter our course to the south.
3:00pm The wind is down to 10-15.
5:00pm Anchor down south of the mooring field at Shroud Cay. Wind NE@10-15.  It is supposed to lessen overnight. Sun is out, no clouds.  10 other sail boats here, plus 4 large motor yachts.  We saw David M. (Park Ranger) collecting mooring and anchoring fees.  As of March 1, the park collects 50 cents a foot for an anchoring fee.  Cost of the moorings depends on the length of the boat.
47.1 NM today. 24°31.50’N  076°47.83’W
