Summer to Fall 2018
We planned to spend our summer traveling, visiting family
and friends, but as so many times happens, it did not turn out that way. Lisa spent about 6 weeks off and on helping
one of her best friends get ready to move.
Her friend had lived in the same house for 28 years and you can imagine
the amount of stuff that had accumulated.
Her friend is divorced and the x-husband owns the house and decided to
sell it. Without a specific place to
move into, everything had to be gone through and stored or disposed of.
Just as that project came to an end, one of our apartments
opened up. The people left without
notice or paying the last month’s rent and left the place a disaster. They moved out of state, so there was really
no way to pursue them for the expense of putting the place back together. It now has a new kitchen, a new (additional)
bathroom, has been completely remodeled and is beautiful. Unfortunately, that took the rest of the
summer and into the fall to accomplish.
Another property, that our son James lives in, had a
complaint filed by a neighbor about the septic system. Turns out it was a complaint for the sake of
complaining, but he got NHDES involved and they found out that there was never
an application approved for the system (many years before we bought it). To complicate matters further, the Town Of
Meredith is who put the new system in because the previous system had failed
and the owner at the time could not afford to fix or replace it (the Town has a
contingency for such things). After many meetings with the Town, DES, and a
septic designer, the Town has now taken responsibility to get this straightened
out with the State.
We also had a new widened driveway done at our home, a new patio slider installed in our kitchen to replace the old wood one that had seen better days, and out gutters fixed. We also had the fence which was installed in the back yard when we moved in, moved over to the actual property lines, adding significant square footage to the back yard.
